SOME HOUSE RULES
Electricity. On arrival turn on the power on the switchboard next to the front door. Please carefully read instructions attached to the switchboard, regarding which switches to turn on. Please remember to turn off the power when finally leaving.
Do not leave any perishable food behind in the kitchen or refrigerators.
If you light the fire please don’t leave it unattended. There is a fireguard for extra protection.
Please don’t feed the cockatoos. Unfortunately they can cause considerable damage to the timberwork of the house.
We would appreciate it if you did not smoke inside the house, or bring animals inside.
We do not ask for a bond, but assume that you will care for the house and leave it as you find it.
RUBBISH COLLECTION
The general rubbish or landfill bin is collected every second Monday. The green bin is for garden and organic waste and is collected weekly on Monday. The yellow recycling bin is collected every alternating second Monday. The purple glass bin is collected once a month on a Monday. The bin/s should be put out on the designated Sunday evening, however they MUST NOT be put out if you will not be there to bring them in on the Monday. If an empty bin is left on the street it will incur a fine. Cockatoos have become adept at opening and emptying rubbish bins which have been left unattended.
If you are not going to be there on the relevant Monday you MUST take your food and general rubbish to the Lorne Transfer station:
370 Erskine Road, Lorne (0400 689 496)
Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, 9am to 12pm
Tuesdays and Thursday 9am to 12pm (from 29 December through 28 January)
Sunday 2pm to 5pm
Alternatively you can take your rubbish with you when you leave and dispose of it when you get home.
A detailed explanation of waste collection rules can be found on the Surf Coast website:
https://www.surfcoast.vic.gov.au/Property/Waste-and-recycling/Disposal-sites.
There is a link on this site to a PDF calendar for collection days in Lorne. The Sheiling is located in the area designated ‘south of the Erskine River’.
